What is productive podcasting, you might very reasonably ask. Productive podcasting is something that varies from podcaster to podcaster. It varies by ambition and methodology. It is necessarily unfixed.

But, for me, productive podcasting is about making your life easier. It’s about making the experience of podcasting more seamless, less time consuming for everyone — both in front of, and behind, the microphone. Productive podcasting is about maximising the efficiency with which you arrive at that baseline of quality. It’s not about making a sloppy product, but about making a good product as sloppily as you can get away with. Because if there’s one banal aphorism that I agree with, it’s this: perfect is the enemy of good. Or good is the enemy of fine, perhaps.

So here are my Top 5(!!!) tips for productive podcasting. Tips that might seem counter-intuitive but which will make your life much easier, in the long-run. Because the most complicated, time consuming product is not necessarily the best one. These are not technological tips (there are plenty of plug-ins and other boring nerd stuff that will also allow you to be more productive) nor will they be applicable to every podcast in the world (if a particular tip makes no sense with your product: please ignore). And if you disagree, feel free to respond with your own tips or get in touch on
