I definitely don’t think reality TV/Kardashians…etc are part of the same thing. The issue with Trump, and maybe I didn’t articulate this sufficiently lucidly, is that the synonymisation (not a word) of Trump with success necessarily elided the distance and disconnect his life and wealth has with the people who he would come to speak for. So Trump becomes ‘American success’ rather than ‘American inequality’, and I think if there had been more focus on the latter symbolisation then it would’ve been difficult for the MAGA movement to rally around him (I suspect they may have found a different focal point).
